3 April, Kathmandu. Transparency International Nepal has demanded the return of former Minister Gokul Baskota from the Public Accounts Committee of the Parliament.
Transparency International Nepal has stated that sending the then Minister of Communications and Information Technology Baskota to the Accounts Committee, who was involved in the audio case of the Security Press Purchase Commission transaction, is a step against good governance.
When Bascotta was a minister, the audio of the talks for 700 million commission transactions was made public. He then resigned as communications minister.
In this regard, the Public Accounts Committee had sent a file to the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority to conduct further investigation into the security press procurement process and audio tapes. Meanwhile, at the request of the CPN-UML (Oli Group), Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota reshuffled the members of the thematic committee on April 12 and Baskota was also included in the Accounts Committee.
Mukunda Bahadur Pradhan, general secretary of Transparency International Nepal, said in a press release on Friday that Bascotta was sent to the Accounts Committee and that the audio tape case was sure to have a post effect.
Both Bascotta and the UML parliamentary party should be serious about making Bascotta a member of the Accounts Committee as it is against the principles of conflict of interest, parliamentary system and system.
