March 20, Kathmandu. On Tuesday evening, an unnatural scene was seen inside the ATM of Jyata in the CCTV monitoring room of Mega Bank. Instead of withdrawing money, a man entered the booth and started using the ATM machine. He took a key out of his bag and opened the front of the ATM.
The monitoring staff immediately informed the bank manager. Before the news reached the police circle, Durbar Marg Chief Rameshwar Poudel, the person who had carried out suspicious activities had left the ATM booth.
According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Poudel, it was clear from the CCTV footage that the serial number was photographed by opening the front of the ATM. When he did not see the intention of stealing money from the ATM, the police thought, "He can go to another ATM as well." Therefore, a plainclothes team of Durbarmarg police took a picture of the suspect and set up an ambush at another ATM. Without saying a word, a person with the same face was seen at another ATM booth.
Chinese statement: My job is just to take photos
According to Kathmandu Police Chief Ashok Singh, it was revealed that he was 29-year-old Wang Xiulu, a resident of Hubei Province, China. According to him, during the investigation conducted with the help of a language translator, he claimed that there was no intention to steal his money.
According to Seoul, a friend living in China asked him to open a Nepali ATM and pay 65 with a key to take a photo and send it. In the second attempt, the police caught him as soon as he took the photo," said a police source, quoting his statement.
In addition, Seoul claims that he has no information.
According to the police investigation, he was preparing to return to Nepal in two days. "Before coming to Nepal, he had booked a room online at the M Hotel behind Thamel's savings fund," said an official involved in the investigation.
Police also raided room 405 of M Hotel where he was staying, where keys used in ATM, laptop, drilling machine and unnamed master card were recovered, said DSP Poudel of Durbar Marg. According to the police, the records of the Immigration Department show that he came to Nepal on a 90-day tourist visa and entered the ATM booth on the same day.
Preparations may be made before looting: SSP Singh
Officials involved in the investigation suspect that the Chinese national may have planned to rob ATMs in Nepal again.
They have speculated that Chinese nationals have been involved in past ATM robberies. However, it is not clear why the Chinese took the picture of the ATM. Kathmandu Police Chief SSP Ashok Singh said, "We may have tried to make sure that the ATMs could be hacked by looking at the technology used in them."
DSP Poudel of Durbar Marg also said that it could not be ruled out that they may have tried to withdraw money by hacking ATMs.
Chinese criminal's eye on Nepali ATM
Earlier, Chinese nationals had stolen money using the ATM booth at Durbar Marg. Police had arrested Zhu Liang, a Chinese national, on September 29, 2076, while withdrawing money from Nabil Bank's ATM booth at Durbar Marg.
The bank had informed the Kathmandu Police as soon as it came to know that the money was withdrawn using Prabhu Bank's card. He was then apprehended by a team led by the then DSP Hovindra Bogati.
During the investigation, four more people were arrested and it was revealed that they had withdrawn Rs 1.26 million from the ATM. During the investigation, it was found that different methods were used to steal money from ATMs than in the past. It was found that the money was withdrawn by attacking the malware in the system.
According to a research official, the Chinese may be trying to understand why banks have made some changes to the system since last year's incident.
Former police inspector Sanjay Timsina said that it would not be possible to steal money by taking the serial number, but he should be aware of the possibility of finding a way to enter the ATM system. He says he has been involved in a number of ATM theft investigations, with the aim of finding out if there is a flaw in the technology we use.

March 0, Kathmandu. A wild elephant has attacked a rhino enumerator in Chitwan National Park.
SP Prakash Malla of Nawalpur informed that four persons were injured when an elephant attacked a rhinoceros at Madhyabindu Municipality-2 in Nawalpur while returning from Chitwan National Park.
He said that one of the injured was undergoing treatment at the District Hospital Madhyabindu and the other two had been discharged after normal treatment.
According to Chief Conservation Officer of Chitwan National Park, Annath Baral, the staff was injured when a pole elephant attacked the team.
He said, ‘A rhino census team of 30 elephants was deployed in the area to count the rhinos. On the way back after counting the rhinos, an elephant named Dhruve attacked the elephants used in the census and fell from the elephants, injuring the census workers.
He said three elephants belonging to the park administration were missing after Dhruv attacked the elephants used in the rhino census.
In a way, attacks on humans by wild animals seem natural. Usually when wildlife deviates from habitat, they do not have enough habitat or food, they come out in search of shelter and food. If they had adequate shelter and adequate food inside the park, they would not have gone out.
