Bhaktapur's fitness style: Gymnasium in every ward, 'Chikon' to alleviate respiratory problems
Bhaktapur Municipality has 10 wards and 3 campuses with free gymnasiums in 23 places. A year and a half ago, Bhaktapur Municipality had brought the concept of opening gymnasiums in every ward keeping in view the health of the city dwellers. Devotees have been participating in the campaign till now after purchasing equipment worth Rs. 200,000 to Rs. 500,000 and putting it in place so that they do not have to pay for regular physical exercises.
Ward Chairman of Ward No. 1 Shyam Krishna Khatri informed that gymnasiums have been set up at 2 places in each ward including three in Bhaktapur. According to him, 19 types of exercise equipment have been installed everywhere for exercising from head to toe.
According to Khatri, a total of 19 types of fitness equipment have been installed in the first phase, 9 types and in the second phase, 10 types. The fitness center has been closed for four months during the Corona period. At present, around 70 people come to each ward daily for practice, according to the municipality.
Bhaktapur is preparing to introduce the Korean practice style of 'Chikon', remembering that there have been respiratory problems since the beginning of the Corona period last year. Now the game is being played by hiring a coach from Korea. According to Ward Chairman of Ward No. 9, Rabindra Jyakhwa, 30 people are training for the game.
At present, Bhaktapur Municipality has been imparting regular training in six different sports. According to Jakhwa, these games are a means of regular practice as well as training for various sports to produce professional players. Accordingly, volleyball, table tennis, karate, boxing, football, gymnastics and now kick boxing have been started in ward no.
On the other hand, self-defense training has also been arranged for the girls, said Ward Chairman of Ward No. 1 Khatri. According to him, the training has been started in 8 wards at the rate of 50 people from each ward.
Plan a group exercise after a long illness
According to Bhaktapur Municipality Chief Sunil Prajapati, the Bhaktapur Municipality had conducted a study on the health condition of the city dwellers soon after the people's representatives were elected. He says that these things have been done according to the plan of giving priority to education, health and culture rather than showing big dreams that cannot be fulfilled.
Before such activities were started, door-to-door nursing services were started to understand the health condition of the city dwellers. In the process of identifying the diseases, the concept of collective gymkhana has been developed after finding that more people are suffering from non-communicable diseases than non-communicable diseases.
According to Mayor Prajapati, regular physical exercise is the fastest way to diagnose problems like heart disease, cancer, diabetes and kidney disease. Gymnasiums were opened in five places including Maheshwari and Dekocha. The gymnasiums opened for testing have been provided to all the wards due to the large number of ward residents.
