March 18, Kathmandu. President Bidyadevi Bhandari is scheduled to inaugurate the distribution of water from the Melamchi Drinking Water Project on Friday. The distribution of water is being formally started by organizing a function in Kathmandu.



According to Ramesh Neupane, Joint Secretary and Spokesperson of the Ministry of Water Supply, the distribution of drinking water in Melamchi will be formally started by constructing a stone fountain in Bhrikuti Mandap so that water can flow for 24 hours. Three taps are being constructed in Bhrikuti Mandap so that the general public can drink for free.

The test of water distribution was successful, 'Neupane said,' The water distribution will be formally inaugurated by the President on Friday. '

Even though the headworks of the project has not been completed, the distribution of Melamchi water in Kathmandu has already started by placing water directly in the tunnel from the river.

Kathmandu Upatyaka Khanepani Limited (KUKL) had started distributing Melamchi water in Kathmandu on April 30. In that context, KUKL had announced the start of Melamchi water distribution by organizing a formal program.

A KUKL source said that the Ministry of Water Supply and Sanitation had objected to the program organized under the banner 'Melamchi Drinking Water Distribution Launch Program' on the same day.

"The program should not have been held with a banner on that day," the source said.

The inaugural program of water distribution of Melamchi Drinking Water Project will be held for the second time on Friday.
